the world of hamachi #1


hello, this is #1 of a series of posts ill be making to act as a space for me to just talk and share things that im working on, occasionally ill share some quirky unexpected bits that Ive encountered during development too... like this:

when I was setting up the Mac build, a sentient cloud spawned in the water out of thin air, the enemies walking around the stage floor turned into tiny bits of themselves, and the "press start" text turned into- another cloud

or if you press '6' on your keyboard, the game will slowly die from lag as it endlessly spawns enemies, and invisible objects that push you around if you get too close, (if you do this in the demo it just crashes the game, thats it, just a dedicated crash the game button) whats more confusing is that I intentionally programmed this to happen, but I cant remember why

anyway, theres a website now

introducing a new mechanic called "the eeper", if you die about 4-5 times, this boss becomes eepy due to the boredom of winning all the time. the introductory sequence automatically skips, and his hp takes on a random value of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10, so you can get a couple of free hits on him before your attacks wake him up, this is so you can easily jump back in if you find yourself getting stuck. I also (again) adjusted the amount of time he waits before puking up one of those red balls, hopefully making the fight significantly easier at the start

oh yeah, and the police actually try now. I always disliked how hamachi just seemed to outrun them so easily, but now that the player can dash, they have that ability too

speaking of dashing, if ur moving right, and double tap the left arrow, you will dash to the right. and if you are moving left, and double tap the right arrow, you will dash to the left.

its a bug, but do I dare revisit this mess to fix it? or do I just call it a feature? I mean it's not broken, it makes dashing mid air easier, and dashing easier in general. its a feature.

I should wrap things up now, so to end with my thoughts

I kinda want to do local multiplayer, and I kind of dont, I feel like having the option would be cool, but at the same time, I feel like it would just be a matter of who manages to press the run button fast enough, and then the second player would be stuck trailing behind.. well multiplayer "kind of works" already (it has been documented) so the foundation is there if I manage to figure that out.

oh yeah I almost forgot, someone asked who the person floating next to hamachi is on the end game screen, thats the main villain of the games universe that you learn about during the introduction sequence. its not mentioned in game, but she has two forms. she can be a floating disembodied head, or transform into something more human. why? she can do that because
